New South Wales’ next Police Commissioner has been revealed, with the state’s current cop top set to be replaced by her successor within days.

Former Deputy Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon has been named as the new Commissioner and is set to step into the role on October 1.

The NSW government is announced the decision on Wednesday after Premier Chris Minns reportedly interviewed three candidates shortlisted for the job.

It comes as Police Comissioner Karen Webb is set to leave the post, having resigned after three years, despite the role's typical five-year term.

Mr Lanyon, who currently heads the NSW Reconstruction Authority, previously had an extensive career in the police force spanning multiple decades.
