The London Fire Department is warning residents about phone scammers posing as firefighters and requesting monetary donations.

In a statement Tuesday, officials said callers have been impersonating the department and asking for money – something the fire service would never do.

“If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately. Never share personal information or send any money,” the department said.

Anyone targeted is urged to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

Residents who have already sent money believing it was for the fire department should contact London police at 519-661-5670.
