EVANGELINE PARISH, La (KLFY) -- Evangeline Parish is set to open a new multimillion-dollar jail facility which will significantly expand its inmate capacity.

The new jail, currently under construction, will house 200 inmates, more than double the capacity of the existing facility. It features separate wings for female and maximum-security inmates, each with their own recreation yard.

"It's a one-of-a-kind multimillion dollar facility. It's brand new so everybody can really, really enjoy it," said Evangeline Parish Sheriff Charles Guillory.

The new jail facility in Evangeline Parish is expected to be completed and operational by Jan. 1, 2026.
