PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- The Peoria City Council approved funding to complete the Northmoor Road and University Street Reconstruction Project on Tuesday.
Funding for the project was unanimously approved in the consent agenda. The city will be requesting up to $3.92 million from the Illinois Department of Public Transportation and will be matching the grant with more than $2 million in local funding.
Locally, money will come from part of the city's share of the State's Motor Fuel Tax funding.
This project will complete the Northmoor Road corridor reconstruction project, which had already been upgraded from Allen Road to Knoxville Avenue.
The intersection upgrades are expected to provide a safer crossing for pedestrians and more connectivity between the multi-use paths on Northmoor, east a
