WINNFIELD, La. (KALB) - September is Suicide Prevention Month, and one Winnfield woman is opening up about her journey in hopes of saving lives.
Kristyn Parker said she has attempted suicide more than 30 times. She believes telling her story may help prevent someone else from making the same choice.
“I was mentally tormented at a young age,” Parker said.
She explained that torment began after she was sexually abused at four years old. Her parents were in and out of prison, struggling with addiction. Her father died of a drug overdose when she was 11. By age 12, she said she tried to take her life for the first time.
“I remember my mom asking me what was wrong. All I could say was I was just mentally tired,” Parker said.
Her pain continued as her grandparents died within a few years.
