A man killed late last week in La Mesa while he was riding his bike around Lake Murray has been identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office.

Officials said the victim was David Engler, a 68-year-old resident of El Cajon.

Engler died Friday after a head-on collision with another bicyclist in Lake Murray, police said last week

The incident was reported around 7:25 a.m. on the Lake Murray north bike path. Police say the bicyclists were going at a "pretty good speed" before crashing into each other.

Engler was pronounced dead at the scene about 15 minutes later, according to the ME's office, which said the cause of death was blunt-force trauma.

The other person was taken to a nearby hospital that morning; their condition remains unknown.
