SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ (AZFamily) — A cow in San Tan Valley made a daring dash for freedom from a local slaughterhouse.

The cow, dubbed Mootilda, was caught on camera escaping from the food processing plant days before she was supposed to be killed. In the video, Mootilda ran for miles before she was captured by police and brought back to the slaughterhouse.

While her freedom was initially short-lived, it took a significant turn. Aime Takaha, owner of Aimee’s Farm Animal Sanctuary in San Tan Valley, says she saw the video and knew she had to do something.

“I contacted the slaughterhouse and said I’d like to take her. She’s extraordinary. She has a will to live,” Takaha said.
