CHEYENNE — Six years after allegedly killing, sexually assaulting and disposing of the body of a Cheyenne woman, Joseph Underwood submitted an Alford guilty plea to lesser charges related to the same incident in Park County.

On Sept. 5, Underwood entered an Alford guilty plea in the Park County District Court to charges of concealing Angela Elizondo’s dead body, being a felon in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest and leading law enforcement on a high-speed car chase on Nov. 2, 2019.

These charges carry a maximum penalty of 14 years and six months of jail time.

An Alford guilty plea means that the defendant admits the court has enough evidence to convict. It does not, however, mean that the defendant has admitted guilt.
