MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa ( KCCI ) - Health officials requested that this year’s Oktemberfest should move its location due to the Legionaries’ disease outbreak in Marshalltown, KCCI reports.
State officials reported an increase in Legionnaires’ disease cases from 70 on Friday to 71 on Monday. There have been two confirmed deaths so far.
The source of this outbreak is still unclear, although state and local leaders suspect a cooling tower in the community.
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services and Marshall County Public Health sent a letter to Marshalltown requesting to move Oktemberfest somewhere else.
On Monday night, the Marshalltown City Council voted four to three to leave it in its current location in downtown.
