LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One Kentucky lawmaker is calling for Jefferson County Board of Education members to resign as the district faces a major, nearly $200 million budget deficit .

JCPS has until January to come up with a plan on where to cut spending and increase revenue before the 2026-27 school year kicks off.

The money crisis puts the school district, and specifically school board members, back into the crosshairs of GOP state legislators who have long been critical of it.

"They are an abysmal failure. They need to apologize to the Jefferson County citizens, and I think they should resign," state Rep. Jason Nemes (R-Middletown) said about Board members.
