No criminal charges will be filed in the weekend fatal shooting of a 42-year-old man in southwest Birmingham.

Birmingham police on Tuesday announced the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office has ruled the Saturday shooting death of Travis Sentell Russell justified.

Authorities have not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting or said why the case was justified.

West Precinct officers were dispatched about 12:45 p.m. Saturday to the neighborhood in the 700 block of McMillon Avenue.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said they arrived to find Russell, who was from Dadeville, bleeding on the ground behind an SUV in someone’s driveway.

Russell was rushed to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:31 p.m.
