Chief Chuck Hoskin, Jr., Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, was one of the witnesses who testified last week before the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. The hearing was titled, "Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act Successes and Opportunities at the Department of the Interior and Indian Health Service." The intent, as Chairwoman Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) noted, was to provide congressional oversight of the law on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.
