TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Adelita Grijalva has been declared the congresswoman-elect for Arizona's Seventh Congressional District.

Hundreds gathered at the El Casino ballroom, where the energy was palpable. The crowd erupted with excitement shortly after 8:15 p.m. when the race was called in favor of Grijalva.

Grijalva secured her win by more than 30,000 votes, according to the latest count. Her children introduced her to the stage, where she addressed the crowd, promising to stand up for the issues she heard from constituents during her campaign.

"I want to get to work immediately," Grijalva said. "I thought we were going to have votes on September 29th and those were canceled. Now we're told we're not coming back until October 7th after the shutdown looming and gonna hurt so many people
