The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered a case against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a US-based Khalistani terrorist. The case was filed after Pannun announced a reward of ₹11 crore for "Sikh soldiers" who stop Prime Minister Narendra Modi from hoisting the national flag at the Red Fort on Independence Day. The FIR also accuses him of "spreading disaffection among Sikhs against India."

According to the NIA's FIR, Pannun, who is the general counsel of the banned Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) outfit, made the remarks during a "Meet the Press" event at Lahore Press Club in Pakistan on August 10.
