Agriculture, the backbone of Sundargarh’s predominantly tribal population, is witnessing a new chapter with the introduction of aromatic and non-aromatic paddy cultivation by adopting organic methods.

Earlier, farmers used chemical fertilisers and pesticides for a good harvest. However, these fertilisers and pesticides did more harm to the crops than increasing the yield. This prompted the state government to roll out this initiative to enhance farmers’ income while promoting natural and organic methods of farming.

The new method of cultivation has so far been undertaken on 5,300 hectares of land across Lephripara, Balisankara, Bargaon, Rajgangpur, Subdega, Bonaigarh, and Gurundia blocks. This year, an additional 2,000 hectares in Sundargarh Sadar and Tangarpali blocks have also come und
