CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- If residents think there’s a running deer problem in the city, Ohio wildlife officials need to hear about it.

Grazing remains another issue, as do suggested methods for deer management, whether it would entail thinning the herd by lethal means or possibly a sterilization program.

After holding a well-attended public hearing in April, City Council’s Public Safety and Health Committee met with a panel in May consisting of state, county and local officials to discuss further actions.

That discussion featured a wildlife ecologist from the Cleveland Metroparks, an Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) official and the retired Shaker Heights police officer who runs the annual sharpshooting program in Shaker Heights and Beachwood.
