Six days after ABC pulled his late-night show off the air, Jimmy Kimmel returned to an in-studio standing ovation with a few words of thanks — and a big hint of irony.

“Anyway, as I was saying before I was interrupted,” he began, spurring laughter.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” was pulled by the ABC network’s parent company indefinitely last week after on-air comments related to the Sept. 10 fatal shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

The comments, which referenced the reaction from supporters of President Donald Trump to Kirk’s death, drew the ire of Brendan Carr, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, who criticized Kimmel’
