The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking the removal of graves of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru and JKLF founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhatt from the premises of Tihar Jail. Both convicts were awarded the death penalty and executed in the jail over a decade ago.
Why did the plea seek removal of the graves?
The petitioners had approached the court requesting that the graves of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhatt be removed from Tihar Jail. They argued that maintaining graves of convicted terrorists within a government facility was inappropriate and sought judicial intervention to have them relocated.
