IMPERIAL — Claudia Pérez Favela, a cervical cancer survivor from Imperial, joined more than 700 cancer patients, survivors, and advocates from across the country in Washington, D.C., last week to call on Congress to protect and expand federal funding for cancer research and prevention programs.
The advocates, representing all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Guam, and Puerto Rico, participated in the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network’s (ACS CAN) annual Leadership Summit and Lobby Day on September 16. With a looming September 30 government funding deadline, they met with lawmakers to emphasize the importance of sustained investment in lifesaving cancer research and evidence-based prevention initiatives.
Pérez Favela met with members of California’s congressional delegation, includ
