EL CENTRO — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced that Osborne Overlook in the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area will be closed to overnight camping on select holiday weekends from October 2025 through February 2026. The measure is aimed at ensuring public safety during periods of heavy visitation.

While the overlook will remain open for day-use activities, the temporary closures are intended to keep emergency access routes clear for law enforcement and medical personnel. Officials said the restriction also preserves a safe landing zone for medical helicopters in case of emergencies.

The overnight camping closures are scheduled for the following dates:

October 27 – November 2, 2025 (Halloween)
