Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Tuesday denounced Israel for its unilateral actions and said Japan will take "new measurements," if further actions to prevent realising the two-state solution are taken.
"The question is not whether to recognise a Palestinan state, but when," Ishiba said. "The continued unilateral actions by the Israeli goverments are unacceptable."
Speaking at the U.N. General Assembly, he also condemned Russia's fighting in Ukraine, while Moscow is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
On Monday, France, Andorra, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, and Monaco announced or confirmed their recognition of a Palestinian state at the start of a high-profile meeting at the United Nations aimed at galvanizing support for a two-state solution to the Mideast conflict.
Their announcements came a day after the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Portugal did the same. More nations are expected to follow, in defiance of Israel and the United States.
