Two people were injured, with one reportedly jumping from a second-story window, during an apartment fire early this morning in Benton Harbor.
Benton Harbor Dept. of Public Safety officials report that at approximately 12:02 a.m., officers on patrol happened to see an apartment, apparently on fire and with a resident dangling from a second-floor window amid heavy smoke. Before fire crews could arrive, the victim jumped to escape the conditions.
Fire department units arrived and quickly located and extinguished the fire, which officials say was contained to a first-floor apartment.
The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety was assisted at the scene by the Benton Charter Township Fire Department, Lincoln Charter Township Firefighters, and the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety.
