Lawyers for two Tasmanian brothers on trial for murder say they defended themselves and each other from the alleged victim, who swung a baseball bat and threatened them.

Meanwhile, the lawyer for a third accused man said her client was "taken completely by surprise by what occurred", though he initially hid the murder weapon.

David Wayne Jenkins died after being stabbed 11 times in George Town in October 2022.

Luke Anthony Shaw, Paul William Shaw and Patrick Kenneth Dolbey have been on trial in the Launceston Supreme Court for his alleged murder.

They have all pleaded not guilty.

After hearing from almost 50 witnesses, defence lawyers and Crown prosecutor Daryl Coates SC have delivered their closing addresses to the jury during the past two days.
