WATERBURY, Conn. — All Waterbury Public Schools are closed due to a water main break, officials said.
The break happened around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in the Huntingdon Avenue area of the city. The break involved a 30-inch, high-pressure transmission with a broken valve. To fix it, the nearby water treatment plant had to be shut down.
According to Mayor Paul Pernerewski, Jr.'s office, crews worked throughout the night. Due to thunderstorms and rain, crews had to pause briefly overnight.
The water main was still not back in service by 4 a.m. Wednesday, but the mayor's office said only a small number of customers are currently without water. However, the number may increase as repairs continue.
