EVANSVILLE, Ind (WEHT) - A big mess overnight on Evansville's south side due to flooding, but it had nothing to do with the rain.

The flooding was thanks to a fire hydrant. At around 1:30 a.m., a car crashed into the hydrant at the intersection of Covert and Norman.

Water began shooting up from the ground like a geyser, quickly causing Covert Avenue to flood.

Once the water department arrived, workers had to shut off several valves in the area to fully cut off the hydrant's supply, but after more than an hour of flowing freely, several inches of water had covered the road.

At last check, the intersection of Covert and Inglewood was blocked due to high water. As for the car, no information has been released about how the crash happened.
