A SPANISH military jet carrying the country’s defence minister experienced a GPS “disturbance” while flying near Russia’s Kaliningrad enclave on Wednesday, Spanish officials have confirmed.

Margarita Robles was the minister said to be on the flight, according to Spanish officials.

The jet was flying over the Russian Kaliningrad enclave, en route to Lithuania, the ministry said.

The 68-year-old has been Spain's defence minister since 2018.

In June, she declared Spain was "absolutely committed" to NATO and the European Union.

In August, the minister said Spain would seek to “invigorate” the European fighter jet project, FCAS.

This followed Spain’s decision to drop plans to buy US-made F-35 jets, instead refocusing its defence spending on European-made aircraft.
