Pembroke’s own Megan Mantha is set to take on a leadership role this weekend in Ottawa as the War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program marks its 50th anniversary.

The 13-year-old, who was born without her left arm below the elbow, has grown up attending CHAMP seminars. This year, she returns not as a participant, but as a Junior Counsellor, helping guide and support younger amputees.

“Being a part of The War Amps has made me the Champ I am today,” Megan said.

She added she is looking forward to sharing her experiences and providing peer support at the seminar, to show other young amputees that they are not alone.

Megan’s mother, Sally Mantha, said the program has been a vital source of support for their family.
