Louisville Metro Council members Donna Purvis and Andrew Owen have filed a proposal that would require pet owners to microchip all cats and dogs.

The proposal includes a penalty of up to $500 for pet owners found in violation.

The council's public safety committee tabled the proposal at a recent meeting to resolve concerns raised by some members related to mandates and cost burdens.
