Let’s hope the threatened strike by thousands of health care workers at Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii goes the way of the threatened nurses strike at Queen’s Medical Center earlier this year — that is, with a settlement, not a strike.
More than 3,500 Kaiser workers have voted to authorize a walkout if agreement isn’t reached by the end of this month, when contracts expire. Workers include hospital aides, medical assistants, nurses and lab technicians, among others. Main sticking points are over safer staffing levels and fair wage increases. Tick tock.
