Police have launched an investigation after a bird of prey was found dead which was believed to have been poisoned in Perth and Kinross. ‌

The red kite was discovered near to its nest north-west of the village of Braco, near Dunblane , on June 22. ‌

However, a recent post-mortem examination and toxicology testing have revealed it had ingested toxic levels of rodenticide, and the banned substance aldicarb. ‌

Aldicarb, a highly poisonous insecticide, is used to control insects and mites. It has been illegal in the UK since 2007, and no products containing it are approved for use anywhere in the country.
