SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The Domestic Violence Network is bringing back its “Paint the Town Purple” campaign in October.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Nearly 15% of women and 4% of men have been injured and affected by partner violence.

Domestic abuse can be physical, sexual, verbal and psychological.

Staff at the network run a crisis line at (605) 480-2721 and offer free assistance to those struggling with abuse.

The contest encourages local businesses and homes to decorate their exteriors with the color purple, representing domestic violence and bringing awareness to the cause.

First, second and third place winners will be determined by October 24 by the domestic violence board members and staff.
