As registration for the City of Hamilton’s swim classes rolls out this week, parents are in a mad dash to sign their children up. The popular program has had thousands register for classes across the city, but the competition has been fierce.

“A lot of parents are first-timers and you have to be fast,” said Cerissa Grieve.

“If you don’t get registered within the first few minutes, your kids are going to go on a waiting list or you’re not going to get the right courses.”

Registration for the courses happens at a breakneck speed — and for good reason, since a spot in a city class can mean the difference between $87 for nine lessons versus $90 (or more) for a fraction of time privately.
