Rumors have been circulating on social media that Americans may soon receive another stimulus check from the federal government, but it may just be the latest example that you shouldn’t believe everything you read online.

During the height of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, millions of Americans relied on economic impact payments, informally known as stimulus checks, from the federal government to make ends meet at a time when many were forced out of work.

President Donald Trump issued two such checks during his first term — the first of which came in March 2020 for up to $1,200, with the second issued in December 2020 for up to $600.
