New Delhi, Sept 24: Punjab is set to benefit from the sanctioned Rajpura-Mohali rail line, a long-awaited project that will directly connect the Malwa region to Chandigarh, cutting travel distances by 66 km and facilitating improvements in textiles, manufacturing, and agriculture.
The line is part of a broader investment surge in rail infrastructure, with the Railway Budget increasing from ₹225 crore in 2009-14 to ₹5,421 crore in 2025-26. Other projects include a new Vande Bharat Express connecting Firozpur to Delhi, enhanced connectivity for tourism, and a Firozpur-Patti line to link border districts with Gujarat ports, all aimed at reducing logistics costs.
