NISSWA — It was spotty weather Saturday, Sept. 20, but that didn’t dampen spirits for the 50th annual Nisswa Fall Festival and 20th annual Smokin' Hot BBQ Challenge.

The event to usher in the fall season featured activities for family members of all ages, including a medallion hunt, pie eating contest, bean bag and bocce tournaments, kids activity area, crafters market, live music and food.

The mouth-watering smell of barbecue wafted across town as barbecue teams grilled ribs all day.

Winners of the Smokin' Hot BBQ Challenge were Nobody BBQ, first; Smokin' Meat Hammer, second; Uff-Da BBQ, third; Smokin' Meat Hammer, People's Choice; Two Jerks and a Mouthful, VIP Choice; and Sunshine's Summerhouse's Sweet Heat Poppers, VIP Side Choice.
