A public hearing will be held on Oct. 14 on an ordinance on proposed rate changes for water and sewer customers on a Nelson County-owned and operated utility system in Piney River.

The proposed rates are double connection fees starting Jan. 1. For example, a $2,000 existing fee for the smallest meter size would jump to $4,000 and the highest meter size at six inches would go from $100,000 to $200,000.

Water use of a monthly minimum of 4,000 gallons at $29.90 would go to $34.36 on Jan. 1, up to $38.82 on July 1, to $43.28 in July 2027 and $52.20 the following July, according to the advertised rates.
