Despite the perception of FCS football compared to the power-conference structure, Cole Wisniewski has been involved in numerous high-intensity contests before joining the Texas Tech football team .

Wisniewski began his career at FCS powerhouse North Dakota State, whose rivalry with South Dakota State expands beyond bragging rights. The Bison and Jackrabbits are usually ranked in the Top 5 when they meet annually, constantly battle for the Missouri Valley Conference title, and have accounted for each of the last four FCS national titles.
