KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas lawmakers are considering changes to the distribution of sports betting revenue, aiming to increase the state's share from the current 6.5%.
Since the legalization of sports betting in 2018, the industry has generated $10 billion in tax revenue nationwide.
However, Kansas currently receives only 6.5% of its sports betting revenue, one of the lowest percentages in the country, with only Arizona and Michigan receiving less.
This week, the Special Committee on Federal and State Affairs met to address the issue of Kansas losing nearly 93% of its sports betting income to casinos and betting companies.
Originally, the state was supposed to receive 10% of the revenue when the sports gaming law was passed three years ago.
