NORFOLK, Va. — A federal jury in Norfolk this week found in favor of former Norfolk police officers who were sued in connection with a car accident in 2020.
The crash happened at the intersection of Shore Drive and Pretty Lake Avenue on Sept. 30, 2020. The lawsuit filed by Brandon Williams alleged the responding police officers, including Sgt. M. Mitchell, Officer Steven B. Stone, Officer John D. McClanahan, Officer Rodney Van Faussien, and others conspired against him in the aftermath of the crash.
It all started in January 2020, when Williams was detained by McClanahan on a misdemeanor trespassing charge. Williams later claimed McClanahan lied in court, and Williams appealed his original conviction, which was dismissed on Sept. 15, 2020.
