OCALA, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol troopers are searching for a van they say struck and killed a man who was pushing a grocery cart across State Road 200 in Marion County.

The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of S.R. 200 and SW 60th Street, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the van was traveling west in the right lane of S.R. 200 and struck the pedestrian — a 76-year-old Ocala man — as he walked north across the road.

The driver of the van left the scene, where the pedestrian was later pronounced dead, officials said.

Westbound lanes were temporarily closed during an investigation.
