A Maine State Police Bomb Squad responded to a traffic stop in Newcastle earlier this week after a possible explosive device was found inside a vehicle.

Shortly after midnight on Monday, deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on Main Street in Newcastle in response to a traffic violation. The driver was arrested at the scene and taken to Lincoln County Jail on an outstanding arrest warrant.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered material that appeared to resemble an explosive device and called in the Maine State Police Bomb Squad and the Office of the State Fire Marshal to examine the item.

The device was secured and removed for further evaluation to include a labor
