GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A Greenville mother will appear before a judge this afternoon after she was accused of playing a role in her son’s death last year.

25-year-old Saunsiree Jefferson is back in Pitt County after she was arrested in Philadelphia last month.

Greenville police have been looking for her since last yea r, after being called to a report of a suspicious death at the Knights Inn at 3435 S. Memorial Drive in November.

When police got to the inn, they found a 6-year-old boy dead in a motel room where they say his family had been living in unsanitary conditions.

Police say an autopsy revealed that the boy was suffering from leukemia. Investigators believe the illness had been ongoing, and the parents’ failure to get medical care played a significant role in the child’s de
