There were no injuries, but Suncor is investigating after a near-miss incident on the Terra Nova FPSO on the weekend.

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Energy Regulator says the engine fan failed during testing on an emergency generator on Sunday.

Parts of the broken fan flew from the machine into the surrounding room.

The two workers who were in the room at the time were not injured, but officials determined that the incident could have resulted in a fatality.

The scene was secured and the emergency generator was isolated.

Suncor has started an investigation into the cause of the incident, which the C-NLOER is monitoring.
