A committee has narrowed 138 submissions for Vancouver’s new flag design to six, and will soon select one to replace the current design, which was adopted in 1993.

The proposed designs, created by Brooke Nugent, Jacob Strain, Nathan Hunter and Brian Richards, “reflect a wide range of creative interpretations of Vancouver’s identity,” according to the city of Vancouver’s website.

“I learned so much about what is a good flag and what is not a good flag,” said committee member Lee Rafferty, Vancouver resident and former director of Vancouver’s Downtown Association. “A flag is not to represent the city, per say. It’s to be for the citizens, so when they see that flag, they can see something of their own experience in it.”
