Kentucky high school students looking to continue their education in college will be taking a different admissions exam starting next year.

The Kentucky Department of Education announced this week it's switching from the ACT to the SAT.
KDE said it awarded a four-year contract to the College Board to administer the SAT Junior State Administration as the state-funded college admissions exam, and it will take effect in spring 2026.
Some of the differences between the SAT and ACT include the former being slightly shorter and the SAT's reading and writing section had shorter reading passages with only one question, while the ACT has longer passages with 10 questions each.
