A routine day at Bill Libbon Elementary School turned into a reunion years in the making recently, when Teanna Venegas, a student mom, recognized the school nurse supporting her son.
Nurse Liza Marie Mabansag, who was working in the neonatal intensive care unit at Marian Regional Medical Center in 2019 and is now the Santa Maria-Bonita Elementary District school nurse, held Venegas' hand during one of the darkest nights of her life.
"It's actually the mom that approached me," Mabansag said. "I really have to think hard first because I’ve been taking care of a lot of babies before and I met so many parents. But she just actually ran to me and hugged me and she said, 'You remember Romeo? Romeo, you know, that’s your baby in NICU' and that’s the way I recognize Romeo."
