Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita issued a warning to the Indianapolis City-County Council after some of its members threatened to vote against the Marion County Sheriff's budget if the agency continued to house immigrants for the federal government, stating that this action would violate state law.
For months, local immigration advocates have criticized the sheriff's office after learning the county jail had become a detainee processing center for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement .
