LUMBERTON — With most teams taking the Friday before the start of conference play as their bye week, the Lumberton Pirates are the only local team who will be on the gridiron on Friday.

In doing so, Lumberton will host a big opponent, with Monroe — the 2024 2A state champion — coming to Alton G. Brooks Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

“We expect it to be a good game,” Lumberton coach Taurius Baker said. “Tough team, defending state champs in their classification. We’re very optimistic, we’re confident going into that game we can come out with the win, and we’re excited about it, excited about being able to play a team like that, and seeing where it can send us going forward.”
