It isn't unusual to see QR codes; they are commonplace - found on pub tables for menus, on restaurant bills for payments, and at parking machines throughout the country. Most people will simply scan them without a second thought, yet that seemingly innocent black-and-white square may cause serious problems.
Scammers in the UK are sticking counterfeit QR codes over legitimate ones in car parks, and other open spaces, deceiving unsuspecting people into revealing their bank information. This scam, known as "quishing" (QR-code phishing), has resulted in losses of nearly £3.5 million for victims in just one year, as reported by Action Fraud .
