Ranchi: At least three Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in a forested area of Jharkhand on Wednesday. An AK-56 assault rifle was among the weapons seized from the site. A cordon and search operation was launched after firing stopped.
The encounter took place in the Gumla district of the state. A tip-off was received of the presence of members of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) – a splinter group of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) – being present in the forest near the Kechki village in the Bishnupur police station area.
